smalljimMy name is Jim Hodgson and I’m an Internet and New Media Specialist. I can talk to any size group about a wide range of topics with a great attitude and a lot of fun thrown in.

I love the climate we’re in now with marketing, and I’m lucky enough to have been involved with the internet and internet companies since the early days. I say I’m lucky because my history gives me a unique perspective on how business can apply their energy to new marketing techniques.

Here are some of the kinds of things I like to talk about:

  • Social Media, and how to use or not use it for business – Does spending all day on Facebook and having a fan page for your business really translate to more sales? What about twitter? Should you be tweeting like crazy?
  • Why Wordpress is so great – It’s no secret that I love Wordpress, and I guarantee you I can get you interested in this free software for your business too.
  • Why Content is king – It is my belief that we are entering a new golden age of customer service, as well as a golden age of the better mousetrap and niche business.
  • Building relationships by being an expert – How to use the internet and social media channels to share your expertise with people and build a relationship with them.
  • Drawing business instead of driving business – When I hear people talk about driving business or driving traffic to their web site, it makes my skin crawl a little. I think you can draw more people with great marketing than you can drive with lackluster marketing and heavy exposure.

I got a taste of the internet when I was in college. Back then there were no pictures, just white characters on a black screen. The first time I used “talk” to converse with a friend across campus on our college UNIX system, I was hooked. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

From there I went to work at an ISP, learning to be a programmer and server admin. That technical background is still with me now, even though I have also spent a lot of time honing my creative skills. I think a lot of people prefer to do one of the other, but I like being able to bridge the gap. I can translate techtalk into artistic concepts and back again.

That’s right, I am both kinds of nerd! It really helps me be a resource to my clients. I love to talk about this stuff!

Which is why I was so excited when the fine folks at NAMM asked me to come speak to them last year in Anaheim. It was a blast. I had so much fun speaking in public about the internet and our new media marketing landscape. I got to present with my friends Mike Nessen and Jen Lowe about social media.

n1544984318_125526_8048Even more fun was that they asked us to come do it again! Our session was a real hit. So much so that we also got asked to come speak at Summer NAMM in Nashville as well, and we’re going back for our fourth presentation at winter NAMM in a few months. This time I’ll be heading up a talk about Wordpress.

If you have a group that could benefit from some insight about social media, blogging, or the internet at large, contact me and let’s talk about how we can work together!
